OVERVIEW
A dermoid ovarian cyst (mature cystic teratoma) is a common benign germ cell tumor that can occur in women. Often the cyst can contain sebaceous fluid, harry, and even teeth.
WHAT MAKES US SUSPECT IT?
Initial Presentation:
- Adnexal fullness
- Generally asymptotic
Physical Exam:
Adnexal fullness may be felt by the examiner
CLINICAL WORKUP
Ultrasound can show find gins of a cystic structure (often ovarian) that can contain regions of calcifications/hyperechoic nodules.
HOW DO WE TREAT IT?
Surgical removal of the cyst should be curative (laparoscopic cystectomy is the preferred procedure).
