OVERVIEW
Mammary duct ectasia is a condition in which the lactiferous duct (milk ducts) of the breast becomes blocked/clogged.
WHY IS THIS A PROBLEM?
When the lactiferous ducts become clogged they can become dilated and and filled with fluid. This can lead to a variety of symptoms in the patient (more explained below).
WHAT MAKES US SUSPECT IT?
Risk Factors:
Perimenopausal aged women (~45-55 years old)
Initial Présentation:
- Nipple discharge
- Breast pain
- Palpable breast mass
Clinical Breast Exam:
- Nipple discharge: bloody discharge
