SUMMARY
Schizoid personality disorder is characteristic of an individual who is a loner and is is detached/unemotional. Other features include:
- Preference to be alone.
- Lack of desire for close relationships
- Preference for solitary activities
- Flat affect
- Indifferent to praise/criticism
- Possible lack of interest in sex.
Don’t confuse with avoidant personality disorder: in avoidant personality disorder patients desire to be with others (but avoid them due to the fear of rejection. Those with schizoid personality disorder don’t even have the desire in the first place.
Don’t confuse with schizotypal personality disorder: these patients lack the eccentric qualities that are hallmark for schizotypal personality disorder.
