WHAT IS IT?
Dantrolene is a direct muscle relaxant. This medication prevents calcium release form the sarcoplasmic reticulum of skeletal muscle by binding the ryanodine receptor.
WHEN DO WE USE IT?
Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome: this medication is used to address the muscle stiffness patients experience with this condition.
Malignant hyperthermia: there are induced muscle contractions in this condition that can be treated with Dantrolene.
