OVERVIEW
Condylomata acuminata refers to genital warts.
WHAT CAUSES IT?
It is believed that these warts are caused by infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV)
WHAT MAKES US SUSPECT IT?
Risk Factors:
HPV infection (especially HPV6 & HPV11 which are lower risk strains for malignancy)
Initial Presentation:
- Genital lesions
Physical Exam:
- Multiple pink/skin colored lesions
- Lesions can range from smooth, flattened papules, to exophytic/cauliflower-like growths.
CLINICAL WORKUP
Diagnosis typically made by characteristic appearance of the lessons.
HOW DO WE TREAT IT?
Chemicals:
- Podophylin resin
- Trichloroacetic acid
Immunological:
- Imiquirmod
Surgical:
- Cryotherapy
- Laser therapy
- Excision
HOW CAN WE PREVENT IT?
Vaccination
Barrier contraception
