EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTIVES
Emergency contraceptives (postcoital contraception) refers to medications/devices used after intercourse to prevent pregnancy. Typically these means of contraception work by delaying ovulation or impairing implantation. They are NOT effective after implantation has occurred. Here are the following forms of contraception that fall into this category:
- Copper IUD
- Ulipristal pill
- Levonorgestrel pill
- Combined oral contraceptive pill
